Prior to the generation of an explosion protection documentation, an appropriate risk assessment, respectively a risk analysis, is required. This covers all sites and facilities in which a potential explosion risk is present or cannot be excluded.

Corresponding risk assessments have been made in the past, among others, for waste material storage sites, substitute fuel processing plants and old landfill sites. The risk assessment requires a solid knowledge base on all facility components as well as the entire range of processes. The assessment will be carried out, according to an approved assessment methodology of “Fine, Kinney and Wiruth”, with a specially developed assessment tool.

Risks in old landfills, especially in case of a later utilisation, are hard to assess. A safety analysis can eliminate potential concerns, respectively define requirements for risk-free utilisation.
